I swear I laughed about this
I decided to steek the YOUKNOWWHAT Knitting Olympics sweater yesterday. I figured I better do it before I did the second sleeve in case something went wrong. Uh, it went wrong. I crocheted the steek and somewhere in the middle nodded off (It is the antihistamines I tell ya) and did part of it wrong. So, the steek situation didn't turn out too well. Here it is:
Yup, it came undone. I futzed around with it and then it went where all "Ok, I am going to cut my losses, it is only a damn sweater" go
It will go to the trash.
Ya know, I could have gotten really upset over it but truth of the matter was that I hated the yarn. Live and learn. I am a dope.

Pfffft
So here is where I am on this "YOUKNOWWHATKNITTINGOLYMPICS" project. It will not be finished by closing ceramony and hey, I am even casting on for a new Rowan sweater at the shop. It has lots of beads in it and it is cool. I still have to get back to Zauberflote or is that Cyberflote?
I have to say that I am loving doing this Dale sweater. That is why I bought more yarn to make another (different ) one. I will show you that one when I get to it... Hehe...

What I bought at Stitches
So the computer is fixed, hurrah!
This is what I bought at Stitches:
Left to Right: All laceweights here. The green yarn on the right is 50% cashmere and 50% silk. The gray one is Yak and silk. The trio of orange colored yarn is I dunno but it is a kit for an Orenburg shawl. The taupe and brown yarn is 100% merino and the purple and green yarn is also merino.
This picture does not do this BEAUTIFUL yarn justice. I love this one. I bought a hat pattern to make out of this. It is by a new company called Toots LeBlanc. It is Merino/Angora. It is all in natural colors.
These are natural shetland from Carolina Homespun. I bought enough to make a sweater out of all natural colors. I get any more natural I will just wear the sheep around my shoulders.
"Socks that Rock". I don't even really need to say more. This was the most popular booth going on I think. I am thinking of carrying it in the shop but the minimum order is WAY high and I don't know if I really have enough room for that much of this yarn. Not only that but the Koigu shipment comes this week (only took 1.5 years to get).
Last but certainly not least is this cashmere by "Just Our Yarn". BEAUTIFUL stuff. I think it might be my favorite. Nawww. I love them all the same.

I HATE SBC
So the guys were suppose to come yesterday to check our line. Nope, they never showed up. So, Mr. Yarn calls them today and they say "Oh, nothing is wrong with your line". It must be the modem but they never called us back to tell us that. We have been sitting around for 4 days now with no computer at the house. Mr Yarn will go buy a new modem and see if that fixes the problem. Maybe we should start using two cups with a string in between... Can you hear me now?

I haven't forgotten you!
I have been without a DSL connection. I am sorry I haven't been a very good blogger. The connection is still down at Chez Yarn! but I have one here at the shop. I did go to Stitches and I did bring stuff back with me. As soon as someone will fix the damn DSL I will show you pictures of some beautiful yarn. Most of it is lace weight because I am taking on the task of learning how to do the real stuff. I am going to try to get Galena to teach a lace class at the shop. Other than that not too much has been happening.
I will be back, I promise.
I will be back, I promise.

At least I am honest
Ya know, I could have bought these on ebay and never shown you how stupid I am, but I am honest. I share my stupidity. So yeah, I bought knitting needles that glow in the dark. Only problem is doesn't seem to me that you can really knit on them. They really aren't rigid enough and they seem to bend too much for comfort for me. Just imagine the laughs you will have when I come back from "Stitches" with my finds. If previous years are any indication, get ready.
Now on to the "Removed name of Janis's version of the Olympics" or the "Existentialist Olympics" here is an update of my progress. No way am I going to be able to finish this. Not only that but I don't think I am suppose to be showing you the progress...heh, I am such a rebel.
Lastly (with good reason) here is a picture of the cat I never show pictures of.

Valentines rug
I was sitting home on monday and got a delivery. It was a big burlap tube. It was my valentines day present. Mr Yarn bought me a hand knotted rug in India. He went looking to bring me back cashmere from Kashmir and couldn't find any yarn so he bought me this beautiful rug. Thanks sweetie, I love it! I also got flowers and candy. Mr. Yarn had it covered.

Cupig
See what I got Mr Yarn for Valentines Day. Ya get it? Pigs go with Texas. I guess you had to be there. Anyhow, he liked it. I on the other hand had the weirdest experience buying the damn thing. I got this pig at Longs. Ok, yeah, I put HUGE importance on Valentines day and only shop at the finest. So, I am in the check out stand and the woman ringing up the sale started hugging the pig. I swear. She would not let go of it. She just kept oooh and ahhhing over how cute this pig was. Then she started to CRY (shut up I swear!!). She said "I get so .... what is the word?" I told her that I didn't know what the word was but I had to go. The man behind me was really getting pissed off and I thought that he was about to say something REALLY nasty. Weird. Anyhow, Mr Yarn liked the Pig.
I still feel like crap and the doctor that I contacted couldn't see me and never called me back. I will try again today.

Happy Valentines Day!
I am sick of being sick. I really am. This head cold is making me miserable and it feels like I am under water. To make matters worse I feel ok to do stuff so I am not sick enough to be in bed. I hate that. Upside is that I have gotten a lot done on my "Knit this During the Olympics Sweater"
I am liking how this is coming out and I also think that it is a fun knit. So you all realize that you will have to come over and drink wine with me while I cut up the steek? My nasty secret is that I am scared of doing this!
Come on. About 2 weeks from now...7ish.

More knitting fun
This is what I was working on at the shop. I decided that I had to make my friend Jean (she doesn't read my blog) a surprise to cheer her up.
I am doing the Colinette blanket so she can wrap herself up in it. It will only take a few days.
So, I decided to rename my version of the knitting olympics to
"The existentialist knitting olympics" The motto will be "what difference does it make?"

Which?
I can't decide which one of these to start and to work on for the 16 days.
This?
Or
This?
Doesn't mean I will finish it, but I am going to put the sweater from hell aside for 16 days (I swear ONLY 16 days) and work on one of these.

added to post:
I deleted the special knitting Olympics post. I hurt someones feelings and I really never intended to make fun of anyone. It is just better off deleted so that there are no hurt feelings.

Magic what?
I tell ya, this is no magic flute. It is more like the magic pipe. You knit and knit and knit your tush off and it stays in the same place. I don't get it. I feel like I have been so good about not dumping this piece of ... cloth for a more fun project. I will finish this because I am stubborn. Doesn't mean I have to be friends with it...

Finished SOMETHING!
I finished the Clapotis. It seems like it took a year. I guess being on size 2 needles does cramp the speed a bit. I love how it turned out so it will be useful to me. It won't end up in THE CEDAR CHEST. Speaking of which, I haven't dragged out a blast from the past in ages. Maybe tomorrow I will give a glimpse of some 70's or 80's knitting.

Hmmm
Friday, February 03, 2006
Argh, didn't finish
I didn't finish the Clapotis on size 2 needles while Mr Yarn was away (you still can't see the amazing color on here). He comes home today and I am not even halfway there (although I may have to make it pretty short because of running out of yarn). Now do you see why there is no knitting olympics for me? I mean I do knit fast but I just can't do it.
Yay. Mr Yarn! is coming home.

Doggy Depression

ew
This is what I am working on. It is from sweaterkits.com. I started to carry them in the shop and they are really nice. I did drop the bobble sweater from Vogue because frankly, it was ugly. Did the whole back (size 2 needles I will remind you) and then started the front. Ew.
So, it isn't the same around here without "Mr Yarn". Just wish he would come home now.
