So part II of sis visiting was New York. God, I love New York. This was my first trip there but I fell in love. I won't get into the food aspect of the city but I did do so on my blog Bite Me New England
There was so much to see. We started off with Grand Central Station
We walked on over to Rockefeller Center
The hotel room was nice. We stayed at the Radisson and the room was small but clean. It was a reasonable price but VERY noisy at night. City was digging from 12:00 until 4:00. Oh well.
I am a number 35 on a sleep number bed in case you were wondering.
Next day we were off to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
The view from the ferry was incredible
Ellis Island got to me. To think that my grandparents landed there put a personal perspective on it.
This is the hall that all the immigrants came to so that they could be processed into the system. When they came it was crowded and people were all speaking different languages
Through this window you can see the Statue of Liberty in the distance
Next day we were off to explore the city more. We went to "Ground Zero" but didn't stick around too long. I felt ghoulish even being there. It was a tourist attraction with a museum and something was really creepy about it. I felt sort of disrespectful being there.
We took the subway all over the place
We went to Times Square
We walked to Washington Square park
I made everyone walk to Bleecker street. I wanted to see what Simon and Garfunkel were talking about:
Fog's rollin' in off the East River bank
Like a shroud it covers Bleecker Street
Fills the alleys where men sleep
Hides the shepherd from the sheep
Voices leaking from a sad cafe
Smiling faces try to understand
I saw a shadow touch a shadow's hand
On Bleecker Street
A poet reads his crooked rhyme
Holy, holy is his sacrament
Thirty dollars pays your rent
On Bleecker Street
I heard a church bell softly chime
In a melody sustainin'
It's a long road to Canaan
On Bleecker Street
Bleecker Street
We walked and I took pictures
Walked through Central Park
Ate at Katz Deli
One of the coolest things we did was take a tour at the Tenement museum.
I think that this museum was my favorite.
We did go to the Guggenheim. There was a Frank Lloyd Wright exhibit. It was amazing.
There was also the Empire State Building
and after walking and walking and looking and all of that....
There were a few beer stops in the 4 days we were there.
